When your dentist finds a lump during a routine dental exam, you may be stricken with fear about your future. Thoughts of diseases ranging from minor abscesses to cancer may be filling your head, and you may be concerned and wondering what you can do.

The first thing you should do is make sure to go see your oral surgeon. Here's more information.

When Your Dentist Finds a Lump

A lump can have many causes, as such, you should focus your energy on determining what is causing yours. While it can be frightening to hear that you have a lump, remember that panic does not help your situation, and it can actually make it worse by causing you to be more impulsive and prone to errors in judgment.

You need to take a moment to relax, take a deep breath, and sit down. Think through your options, and realize that this is not necessarily going to be the terrible ordeal you may fear it to be.

Contact Your Oral Surgeon Right Away

While you should not panic, neither should you neglect to take the necessary steps to get some help. This means that first and foremost, you need to remain on top of things and make sure to make an appointment with your oral surgeon.

When you visit your oral surgeon, he or she will need to know about your medical and family history. You can help expedite the process by doing your homework ahead of time.

Also, he or she will probably need to know if you are allergic to any medications, so that he or she can determine what, if any, additional steps will be necessary during the course of your treatment.

Keep your chin up, and let your oral surgeon do his or her job. You'll make it through this!

Please contact us if you have any questions about your oral health.
